How was it created
Wed Dec 04, 2019 2:21 am
This is a couple of pieces that seemed to be carved one is the eagle head i circled and other carving is around the eye!. How did they create this? Whst tools? How long?
These are questions i wonder about. I find some very small “chips” that actually fit in between thumb and index fingers perfevtly but they leave a timy tip out ! that is sometimes very shiny and to me it is pisdibly a precision tool. Not the trash that i am told by experts! But since art is in my imsgination no tools to creste ut exist! Anyone think about the way the art was created also!!
Thx
Judy

There are 5 documented types of working in flint, pressure, percussion, drilling, polishing and Qu??? ( I forget its name) which involves removing layers. As for the scratches, I am unsure, perhaps diamonds as mentioned in another post. Another theory I have is the application of heat, and sheet ice which is totally untested/unsupported. As for some of the flake removals in my finds, I just do not know, the precision in which large single flakes are removed without bulbs of percussion is a mystery.

Sometimes natural inclusions/features in the flint are exploited also....

That cloaked figure is a giveaway for spotting these finds, looks quite sinister as the top half figure with sleeve and hand pointing downwards.

Hey Grim, great profile pic, excellent bear head and human head depictions in that one.
