Tool with rock art
Fri Mar 22, 2024 6:48 pm
I found this awhile back thought I would share it. Looks to be a hand axe... definitely has a nice blade area sorta clever style. Then ur has the two opposite ends for use. The art is clearly visible with a nice human profile a bird and .maybe a big cat stretched out across the top. Let me know what yall think. Here's pics of both sides.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This next piece is one of my favs. I would guess it to be a drill. On the obverse you can see a very detailed eye slight nose and small slit of a mouth.. looks like the artist used the natural coloring to its advantage.. then on the reverse its easy to see the pressure flakingalong uts edges. Then the side view even has a figure.maybe a typeof bird..I'm not so good at naming the figures.
So Brett what do you think of this flint tool with arton it?[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

This next piece of flint I can't be sure if what it was used for but I've taked pics if all sides bc there's something to see on each of them. These first 3 show how the cortex was left on .....with facial features pecked into it.....[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Here's one I think might be a figure stone at every angle there is a face or animal carved into the stone. If anyone wants to see mote of this one let me know. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Nothing here strikes me as classical flint tool, I do see a possible nice eolith, bear head, then flipped shows a possible subtle elephant?? the shiny water warn find...

This last one is potentially a figure stone, it has the common black and possible ochre pigment, some common figuration, perhaps if sculptured, the flakes were pried away?

It's the first one ....and 3rd

The first one is two difficult to tell in the photos, The third one looks sharp but seems broken due to areas of 'newer' flake removal, I cannot see classical blade retouch on either, but that's not always a proof negative.
