I recently found this in Trinity County, Texas. I was hoping for some kind of Input or information about what it is & maybe what it means. It looks like a man's face on one side & looks to me like a "totem like" bird figure onthe other side as well as a cross in the bottom corner. Any help or information would be appriciated.Possible face effigie 20240516

Hi, it's a very good find by the looks of it, I can't tell the material, but it certainly does not look like a human face impression. There is a large amount of BS regarding human-bird hybrid images, yes indians did make a few in certain tribes and locations, but that's as far as it goes from the evidence presented. Do you think the item is clay?? Or what type of stone do you think it is?

I don't think that it is Clay, I'm pretty sure it is a rock but I don't know what kind of rock. I was trying to find anything similar to it on the internet & found another effigy that someone posted that looks like the same material as the rock used in mine.

The rock type looks fairly soft, due to the linear etchings on the reverse side. It could be lime stone or more likely sandstone? It also looks to have at least one type of pigment used. As for aging it. Fairly impossible, unless ape like creatures roamed the states less than 35k ago, in which case carbon dating would be possible on the pigments if under that age. Probably much older....

This is the only thing I could find on the internet that looks similar to the material that was used to make mine.

This to me looks very much like the head of what I think is a bird on one side of the rock. I found the picture online under effigies but I thought maybe it would lead me in the right direction to find out something more about my rock & maybe what it means & who possibly made it.

Unfortunately not, the heritage of the sculptured bird head is known. There is no link between the two items. Just like this photo below.

Jatayu Earth's Center, is located in the heart of Kerala in India

Interpretation of the face is the key to this item, if you think its some kind of hybrid bird human, good luck with that. If you think it displays an ape like creature, congratulations, you are on your way to understanding figure stones, and the huge part they play in human history going back millions of years.

Interpretation of figute stones is always subjective, sometimes items are highly detailed helping us to be more certain, but never 100%.

See the stripes on this turtles back in the photo. Possible face effigie Screen23

Yes, I do see the stripes on the turtles back & yes I see a ape like creature on the rock as well. I found this in east texas if that helps at all. With making any sense out of what it means. There are people that live within about 20 miles of where I found this that say there is a pyramid on a creek that feeds into the trinity River. Has anyone in this group that has ever heard of something like that? Was there Indians that built pyramids anywhere that is documented?

It's really intruging to hear of a pyramid near the Trinity River! In terms of historical structures, Native American tribes like the Caddo did build mound complexes in parts of the Southern U.S., including Texas. These mounds sometimes looked like pyramids, but they were generally used for ceremonial or burial purposes rather than being actual pyramids like those in Egypt.

As for the pyramid in East Texas, it's possible this could be part of local folklore or a misinterpretation of natural formations or smaller man-made structures. There's a rich tradition of storytelling and local legends in every community, which can sometimes give a mystical aura to natural or historical sites.

Obviously Sourh American cultures are rich with pyramid like structures, and mega lithic sites, and its almost impossible for there to be no ancestral links between these various groups/tribes.

I know someone personally that says he has seen the pyramid & it is located off of Tantabouge Creek that runs into the Trinity River. I haven't seen it for myself but I'm very interested in finding out more about it.

Just to the east of Tantabouge Creek, on a Google map search is an intesting structure/earthwork. It reminds me of Silbury Hill here in the UK, a huge earthwork that is the same shape, close to Stonehenge and the Kennet long barrow, very famous UK prehistoric sites. It looks like a round hill with its top cut off, it could be described as a pyramid I guess.
